Ferd and I took a short drive on the Apache Trail into the Superstition Mountains. At the Tortilla Flats, we saw 3 life birds! We saw at least 3 Phainopeplas, a Gila Woodpecker and a Chihuahuan Raven!
The Gila Woodpecker uses the Saguaro cactus for nesting.
We were very lucky to see the Chihuahuan Raven’s white neck feathers which are infrequently displayed.
Three life birds in one day. Wow!
Great birds, that Raven looks as if it has a Groucho Marx disguise on!
Interesting place. I have a friend who used to live near there. He wasn’t much interested in the birds, though.
