Apache Trail, Superstition Mountains, AZ

Ferd and I took a short drive on the Apache Trail into the Superstition Mountains. At the Tortilla Flats, we saw 3 life birds! We saw at least 3 Phainopeplas, a Gila Woodpecker and a Chihuahuan Raven!

The Phainopepla

The Gila Woodpecker uses the Saguaro cactus for nesting.

We were very lucky to see the Chihuahuan Raven’s white neck feathers which are infrequently displayed.

Three life birds in one day. Wow!

Arizona

We had a great trip to Phoenix, Arizona to visit Ferd’s daughter Kelly and met her boyfriend, Jason.

We went at a good time. The weather was only 94 degrees and we did some mountain climbing!  Just starting out here.

We saw a few lizards.

We saw some interesting cacti. Some were in bloom.

Kelly at the top of the mountain!

We saw a few birds like this Black-throated sparrow in it’s nest in the cactus and lots of Great-tailed gackles.
